Stage 1 |
Location: | TIU Spearhead (L4 Secondary Battery) (2, 15) |
You find a Maintenance Tech hammering desperately on his Datapad. |
He glances up at you, 'Ah Captain, I've read the most recent situation reports. I've seen that you are effective in a crisis, but lack clearance. I need that before I can ask for your help.'
'Please access the Line Station in the Battery Service Ring and get the relevant authorization from the Chief. He's in the Interceptor Bay. Come back when you are done.' |
Stage 2 |
Location: | TIU Spearhead (L4 Battery Service Ring) (2, 2) |
You enter a familiar room, at its center is a Pillar with a small view screen and keyboard. The small view screen has a simple menu with several maintenance departments listed. |
After you press the on screen button you watch the TIU symbol spin for a few seconds. The Face of the Maintenance Chief stares back at you, 'Captain? Well I'm glad to see you, we have a situation. As you know - the late Captain Emon had gone a little bonkers. I don't know why, but he has locked all Portals and Shuttle Bay doors so we cannot escape. Then put the Spearhead into a decaying orbit. In 60 hours we will plunge right into the Gravity Well of Sigma - then it's all over. The Spearhead is a Capital Class vessel, it's not designed for atmospheric maneuvers. The engines will not keep it from slamming onto the surface. Needless to say we must stop that from happening.'
'The systems are spread across the Spearhead as a security measure of course. So you will need to deal with several issues to get the job done. I see that Kalvan has requested temporary authorization for you. Why is this?' You explain that Kalvan wanted your help with something but required the authorization to do this. The Chief looks back at you in open astonishment. 'Errrrr.... We're all gonna die and he's worried about authorization! Well I have put you on full Maintenance Authorization, that should keep Kalvan happy. You can explain this to Kalvan fully when you go see him. I have updated his Tasks List so he can guide you through the process. Sorry, but I have to at least try to activate the Portals. Good luck Captain.'
Return to Kalvan in the Secondary Battery |
Stage 3 |
Location: | TIU Spearhead (L4 Secondary Battery) (2, 15) |
You return to find Kalvan looking bemused as his Datapad. 'Ah Captain, did you by any chance get the required Authorization?' |
You slam your fist into Kalvan's face as hard as you can. His head snaps back and his nose explodes in a red gush of blood. He instantly crumples to his knees before you. You look down at him and mention in as pleasant tones as you can manage, that you have indeed acquired the relevant permissions. But you find it incredible that within about 60 hours the Spearhead will be destroyed and he and everyone on the ship will die. And all Kalvan seems to worry about is Authorization!
Through gritted teeth you order him to his feet and demand to know where you need to go first. Kalvan holds is face in one hand and looks at his Datapad. Our first destination is Power Distribution, just off the Engine Room down on level 2. We need to make sure that the power is stable across the Spearhead first. I shall meet you there. |
Stage 4 |
Location: | TIU Spearhead (L2 Power Distribution) (2, 6) |
You find Kalvan working studiously on his Datapad. Menus stream across the small view screen. |
Kalvan does not look up from his Datapad, 'Emon has activated the Disaster Protocols and set a complex firewall around the HEA shut down. I'm locked out of the Main Control Panel. I can't reset the Power Stabilizers without access to that Panel. Take this Base Maintenance Blueprint and find out a way around the Firewall. Emon might stop an Officer, but can't stop Maintenance access to it's own hardware. Meet me at the main Control Panel when you have the HEA Base Maintenance.
You receive 1 x HEA Base Maintenance Blueprint |
Stage 5 |
Location: | TIU Spearhead (L2 Power Distribution) (9, 5) |
Kalvan stands over the Main Control Panel, 'Have you managed to get the HEA base Maintenance yet.' |
Kalvan takes the Base maintenance from you, 'Excellent, the HEA being active froze out the other functions.' He slaps the Disc into the Control Panel and the numbers flash on screen for a second. 'Well done Capitan. I can now re-establish the power balance across the Spearhead.'
You watch Kalvans figures run across the keyboard, he might be annoying but he clearly is expert at his job. The lights glow brighter, then go back to normal.
'Right, all systems across the Spearhead have a consistent power flow. With that we can start to fix the Orbital Decay. But first we need to get help. Unfortunately there seems to be an issue with that which we need to sort out.'
Meet me in the Sensor Array, you can gain access from Life Support. |
Stage 6 |
Location: | TIU Spearhead (L2 Sensor Array) (8, 12) |
Kalvan looks around as if afraid. |
Kalvan nods curtly when he sees you, 'There are some specialist Maintenance Techs on the Spearhead that have Cybernetic implants to make access to the Computer Systems easier. We need them to force our patch through the Main Memory. Unfortunately Emon is not stupid. He has crippled the entire department somehow. They are wandering around gibbering at nothing, which is more than unhelpful for our purposes.'
'I need you to find out what is up with them, so I can fix it.' |
Stage 7 |
Location: | TIU Spearhead (L2 Sensor Array) (8, 12) |
Kalvan awaits your return, 'Have you found out what is up with the Maintenance Cyborgs?'. |
You are not sure about the small video file, but you hand it to Kalvan anyway. He takes it and snaps it into his Datapad. He looks confused for a few moments, 'Ummm, where did you get this?' You explain that the Loop was running constantly within the Cyborgs Optical Implants. Kalvan's eyes open wide. 'Yes of course, the system, would register the loop as part of the HUD. But to the Cyborgs they would interpret the images as direct sensor inputs. It does not look much to us. But we are not experiencing the full VR stimulus that they are. I see that the Wireless connection was used in your Blueprint... Ok, I can purge the file the same way it was uploaded.'
You watch Kalvan work, in a few moments he resets the HUD of the Cyborgs and puts in a security code to stop future hacks. The guy is good, though you hate to admit it. As the purge is uploaded you see the nearest Cyborgs shake their heads and start to return to their normal duties.
Kalvan puts his Datapad under his arm, 'Ok, the Cyborgs are back online. But I've just seen a large power drain in the Droid Assembly. I only saw the anomaly because of the new Power Balance we initiated. Please meet me in the Driod Assembly, its just off the Service Deck on the first level.' |
Stage 8 |
Location: | TIU Spearhead (L1 Droid Assembly) (15, 15) |
Kalvan looks around the Droid Assembly, he thumbs his Datapad nervously. |
'Excellent Captain, we do have a problem here. I suspect that Emon expected some resistance to his plans for the Spearhead. Whatever they were. So he set the Droid Assembly in motion to presumably be his own personal army to quash that resistance. I can only assume that there are battleplans uploaded into the Droids. Which will automatically kick into action when their numbers have met predetermined number. I need to disable the Assembly Plant before that happens. I see that a few hundred have been made already. By the time I turn off the Plant it will have made another hundred or so.'
'I am sorry, but I must ask you to destroy 350 Spearhead Droid Troopers. I shall meet you here when I have disabled the Plant. |
Stage 9 |
Location: | TIU Spearhead (L1 Droid Assembly) (15, 15) |
Your return to find Kalvan breathing hard as if he has been running, 'Did you get rid of 350 Spearhead Droid Troopers?' |
Kalvan nods slowly, 'Well done Captain. The remaining Droids will simply stand there waiting for their population to hit the Mission Parameters. Since I've disabled the Assembly Plant the danger is averted for the time being, TIU protocol does work for you sometimes.'
'Right, I saw a peculiar alarm when I was in the Assembly Plant, which warned of minor hull breaches in the Cargo Dispatch just off the Docking Bay here on level 1. Since we are so close we should check it out.' |
Stage 10 |
Location: | TIU Spearhead (L1 Cargo Dispatch) (10, 13) |
You enter the Cargo Dispatch and eventually find Kalvan. He is scanning the area with his Datapad. |
Kalvan looks at you over his Datapad. 'Ah..... Captain, good. My scans of the area reveal a few breaches in the hull. But nothing that the repair nanites can't deal with. We keep their concentration up so they are very efficient at patching such breaches. So it is not the holes I am worried about. My scans do not show anything else in the area. Which is good. But I have seen odd bug-like things crawling about. It might be some research project that has got loose in the recent confusion. One cannot be sure what Research Division is up to.'
'I need you to find out what these things are, so we can decide what to do. Take this TIU Bio Analyzer Blueprint and see what it is'
You receive 1 x TIU Bio Analyzer Blueprint |
Stage 11 |
Location: | TIU Spearhead (L1 Cargo Dispatch) (10, 13) |
You return to find Kalvan looking at his scan results with a puzzled look. 'Did you get a TIU Bio Scan of the odd intruder I saw?' |
Kalvan takes the Bio Scan an snaps it into his Datapad. A graph scrolls over the small screen. Kalvan squints at the results. 'Ummmmm, this makes no sense. It looks like the results point to a thing which is fully organic. That has no synthetic origins. I don't know what this means, but it does show that it has no TIU origins. We only deal with Clone DNA. We need to get rid of these things as soon as possible.'
You point out that the quickest way to clear the Cargo bay is to seal of the area and open the doors and space the Biomites. Kalvan nods, 'Yes but the Biomites are obviously space faring and would not care.... Oh I can turn on the Jump Field. It will fry all everything around the Spearhead. Good idea Captain. Lets go.'
You both exit the Cargo area, Kalvan pauses by the blast door. He types on his Datapad. A siren erupts inside the Cargo Dispatch and you hear a rush of air as well as hundreds of high pitched screeches. When there is a few seconds of silence Kalvan activates the Shields and closes the Cargo doors. You are struck at the ease and speed Kalvan does these things. You wonder if punching him was such a bright idea after all.
'Right, we have done that. The shield generators will need to cool down, but since we do not jump anywhere due to the nebula surrounding Sigma its really nothing to worry about. We are nearly done. We just need to reconfigure the Spearhead Guidance Systems. The main system controls are on the Bridge of course. But that will have been dismantled by Emon I bet and we really don't have time to mess around. What most people don't know is that there is a secondary access to the Guidance Systems via the Shield Generator. The reason for this is that sometimes the shields fail so the Shield Personnel can steer the Spearhead away from an enemy attack instantly. It has saved many lives. This is good for us as it gives us a back door to the guidance Systems that I bet Emon forgot about!'
'I shall meet you in the Shield Generator, which can be accessed from the Corridors on level 4.' |
Stage 12 |
Location: | TIU Spearhead (L4 Shield Generator) (15, 2) |
Upon entering the Shield Generator you are struck by the utter silence. Kalvan is of course scanning the area, but this time he seems to be altering the scan frequency. |
He does not look up from his Datapad. 'This area is usually full of people keeping the Shields stable. It's not an easy job. These people work very hard. It's a noisy place as they shout numbers at each other. The silence is wrong. I'm also picking up weird frequencies but I cannot get a fix on them.'
Kalvan does not see the Echo charging toward him. You kill it before he even knows he is in danger. He stares in horror at the dead thing at his feet. 'Errrrr, thank you Captain. You saved my life. I take it that this is an Echo? I guess that they are responsible for the silence, which will also mean that they are hostile in the extreme.' He takes a deep breath.
'Ok Captain, near the Facility there is the Shield Control Station. I need to get there to stop the Spearhead from slamming into Sigma. You need to protect me from these Feral Echo. Can you do that?' You nod.
You must kill 100 Feral Echo to protect Kalvan in his walk to the Shield Control Station. |
Stage 13 |
Location: | TIU Spearhead (L4 Shield Generator) (9, 9) |
You find Kalvan kneeling beside the Shield Station next to a dead Soldier. He stares up at you, fear etched into his face, 'Have you driven off the Feral Echo?' |
Kalvan nods, 'Good. But I think it was all for nothing. The Shields Station has an Key which authorizes its use. The Key is carried by the Shield Commander at all times. The Commander is laying here. The Key is gone.' You look at the hopelessness reflected in Kalvan's eyes.
He looks up at you suddenly, 'You have had dealings with these Echo before, do they have Leaders or are they all mindless beasts?' You tell him that they very much have Leaders. If you can find the Echo Leader it might have the Key. Kalvan grabs you, 'I need the TIU Shield Key to activate the Station and I need it quickly.' |
Stage 14 |
Location: | TIU Spearhead (L4 Shield Generator) (9, 9) |
Kalvan stands waiting for you at the Shield Station, 'Have you found the TIU Shield Key?' |
Kalvan stares unbelieving at the Key in your hands. 'I thought that we were lost. Right at the end I thought we had been foiled.' He takes the key from you, and activates the console. He checks the power levels, nods at the green lights across the ship. Then he types in a few numbers into a comms channel. After a few seconds a calm voice answers. Kalvan nods again and asks the Cybertech to shunt the following datum numbers into the Main Computer Memory. He sends his identity code when the Tech requests it. There is a few seconds wait.
Lights turn red across the view screen, an alarm sounds. Kalvan nods a third time and slams his fist onto the keyboard. He points to four indicators on the screen, 'These are the vector thrusters, they should turn red as they fire.' You watch a red bar rise up the scale. 'With the thrusters firing that means that the Spearhead knows it's off course. It's now correcting the Orbital Decay. In a few hours we will be in a stable orbit. After a shaky start we worked well together. I hope we can avoid such misunderstandings in future. Thank you for all your help Captain.'
You nod silently and turn to go. But Kalvan stops you. 'I may only be a TIU Mechanical Tech but I once wanted to be a Weapons Researcher. Though I failed at the interview, they said I didn't have a team spirit. I was devastated and to prove them wrong I designed a rifle. They refused to even look at it. I don't know if it would be of any use to you, but I'd like to think that at least one of my rifles was in existence. Take this Blueprint as a token of my thanks.'
You receive 616,095 Xp + 20 Skill Points + 1 x Kalvan Kannon Blueprint. |
