Lingering Flame |
|
Stage 1 |
Location: | TIU Spearhead (L4 Shield Generator) (15, 9) |
Within the deathly silence of the Shield Generator you suddenly hear the sound of running footsteps. |
|
You search for the source of the sound and find a young Ensign. She stops as soon as she sees you, 'Have you seen Kalvan? I need to give him something.' You point back to the Shield Control and tell her that Kalvan is there. She looks at you sideways, 'Are you working with him?' you nod in reply. 'Awww, I'm sorry. Anyway can you give this to him. It's from the Maintenance Chief and has been approved by the Acting Captain. I was told to tell him to drop whatever he was doing, this is more important.' She hands you a TIU Spearhead Update, 'But you can tell him, so I don't have to talk to him.' And with that she turns on her heel and walks away.
You receive 1 x TIU Spearhead Update
You glance at the Datapad in your hands. On the small view screen you see the words, For the attention of Kalvan and/or the Unit Captain. You sigh deeply to yourself and call him over as you open the file.
You are half way through reading it when the Datapad is snatched from your hands. Kalvan speed reads the report the then tucks it up under his arm and starts to walk to the exit. He calls to you over his shoulder, 'Come on Captain, onward and upward. We have no time to lose. There is a problem with the Ammo Technicians in the Missile Rack. I'll meet you there. It's on this floor and is accessible from the Secondary Battery obviously.'
You lose 1 x TIU Spearhead Update |

Stage 2 |
Location: | TIU Spearhead (L4 Missile Rack) (11, 9) |
The Missile Rack is aptly named. You see rows and rows of complex machinery that feed the ammunition into the Secondary Battery. From the size of the doors alone on these huge machines you are not surprised that the TIU have personnel in powered suits working here. Your wonder is short lived however as you are called over by Kalvan. |
|
He does not look up from his Datapad, 'You're here, excellent. You remember that we had an alien intruder recently called the Echo? They had a technology which utilized an unknown energy called Darkfire. Through this Darkfire, the Echo apparently gain influence over others.' You nod slowly, not liking where this is going.
Kalvan continues, 'Well the Ammo Technicians here have started to attack anything they see that is not an Ammo Tech. Which is a problem as you can imagine, but the issue of real concern is that the Pilots of the powered suits cannot be hailed. They are sealed suits just like the Gun Loaders - you see. The Maintenance Chief is worried that there is residual Darkfire still within the system, and this could be controlling the Power Suits. Of course for this to work the Pilots would have to be dead. We need you to find out what type of Darkfire is effecting the Ammo Techs, as it seems to be resistant to our System Purge. Take this Ammo Tech Diagnostic Blueprint and see what is up with them.'
You receive 1 x Ammo Tech Diagnostic Blueprint |

Stage 3 |
Location: | TIU Spearhead (L4 Missile Rack) (11, 9) |
Kalvan works on his ever present Datapad, he looks up and asks briskly. 'Captain, have you managed to compile the Ammo Tech Diagnostic?' |
|
Kalvan snaps the small disc into his Datapad, and frowns at the results. 'I don't understand. The Diagnostic clearly shows that nothing is wrong with the Ammo Tech System. It is in perfect operating condition. Also the Schematic has no signs of stress. If the Power Suit is moved by an untrained operative, the joints and motors are damaged. Something is not right here.'
Kalvan then takes a sharp intake of breath... 'Umm Captain, did you get any communication from the Ammo Techs as you 'interacted' with them?' You shake you head in confusion. Kalvan turns the Datapad, on the small view screen you see a Graph of the Pilots bioscan. It details that the Pilot was alive.
You repeat that you were told that the pilots were dead inside and that the suit was being controlled by Darkfire. The Ammo Techs attacked you on sight so you had to defend yourself. Kalvan nods, 'Yes Captain, security logs clearly show the Ammo Techs attacking you first. It's all right, I'm not accusing you of anything. There is also a curious thing about the Communications Logs. I cannot access them due to high level encryption for some reason. There is something more happening here, so I will just seal the blast doors and contain the Ammo Techs for the time being. I have prepared a field report and sent it to the Acting Captain, he can decide what to do about this.'
Kalvan tucks the Datapad under his arm, and walks away. He calls over his shoulder, 'Come on Captain, whilst you were away I received a report that there is another problem with the Droid Troopers. They are forming up into units in the Muster Point. This might not seem a problem, but the Troopers do this just before they attack!'
'Meet me at the Muster Point Captain. Its just off the Docking Bay on Level 1.' |
|
|
Stage 4 |
Location: | TIU Spearhead (L1 Muster Point) (15, 2) |
You find Kalvan looking around nervously. |
|
He nods at you curtly, 'I hate Droids, you never know what they are thinking. Anyway, I thought we sorted this before, this is what happens when we depend on other people to do their job. Sorry Captain, but I need you to do a similar thing that you did before. The way we left them, they should have simply stood there. Something has altered and we need to find out what that is.'
'You must reduce their population but also find out what has altered with the Troopers. Whilst you are at it, look for the DTMC. With the Droid Trooper Memory Core I can attempt to figure out what is going on.'
You must destroy 150 Activated Droid Troopers and find a DTMC.' |
|
|
Stage 5 |
Location: | TIU Spearhead (L1 Muster Point) (15, 2) |
Kalvan greets you, 'You managed to thin down the Trooper numbers and get the DTMC?' |
|
He smiles, 'Good, I like the thought that the troopers are now in bits.' You're not too sure from whence it came, but Kalvan is suddenly holding a cable. He connects up the Memory Core to his Datapad. Kalvan is about to say something when the Datapad gives a sharp bleep. Distracted he peers at the small view screen, 'Oh, there is a correlation between the Ammo Techs Comms Log encryption and the fire wall around the Memory Core. How odd.'
Kalvan squints as he works on the Datapad for a few moments, then he gives you a big grin. 'It's so useful when people don't know what they are doing. Whoever did this hid their identity number but forgot about the their location code. Every terminal on the Spearhead has a unique code. I can simply search.... this.... and... Got it! They accessed the System Net from Trooper Dispatch. That does not make any sense, only Officers have access to that location.'
'I need you to look for an Officer and ask him for the Access key to the Trooper Dispatch. I simply don't have the clearance for that area. I will try to find more information in the DTMC whilst you are gone.' |
|
|
Stage 6 |
Location: | TIU Spearhead (L1 Muster Point) (15, 2) |
Kalvan's The Datapad makes some loud bleeps as you return, he looks glares at you in frustration. 'Tell me you got the Trooper Dispatch Key, I'm not having much luck here.' |
|
Kalvan grabs the key from you, 'Excellent, meet me in Trooper Dispatch and we can get to the bottom of this.' |
|
|
Stage 7 |
Location: | TIU Spearhead (L1 Trooper Dispatch) (2, 2) |
You enter a small room, at it's center is a computer terminal with a 2nd Gen using it. Kalvan seems to be looking at him in utter disbelief. |
|
The atmosphere in the small room is tense and you see Kalvan staring in open disbelief at his Superior Officer. You are not too sure whats going on, but Kalvan is not acting like he normally does. Kalvan turns to you, 'I can't believe what's going on, he just will not listen to me. I'm just Maintenance you see. You talk to him.'
You glance at the 2nd Gen before you. He looks down his nose at you, 'I do not discuss TIU situations with civilians. Protocol you know.' Kalvan swears softly and on the console he deftly brings up your TIU personnel file. The 2nd Gen grunts in disgust, 'Why are you out of uniform Captain? I shall be sure to add a note to your record when I have time. Such behavior is not acceptable for a TIU Officer...'
You can tell that the 2nd Gen is used to talking, you hold up your hand and ask him directly what he knows about the reactivation of the Droid Troopers and problems with the psychotic Ammo Technicians. Kalvan takes an sharp intake of breath. The 2nd Gen scowls at you, 'You have no right to to disrespect loyal men. The Ammo Techs are just.' He stops talking...
Kalvan completed the sentence, 'Following orders... That would explain the encryption on their Comms Logs, to hide where the orders came from...' The 2nd Gen's eyes burn, 'Those men know who they can trust. They know who deserves to be Captain! The Acting Captain did nothing to stop Emon being butchered in his own Bridge for goodness sake.'
You connect the pieces together, 'The Ammo Technicians cause a disturbance giving you time to modify the Droid Troopers that Emon made, and then attempt to take control of the Spearhead and make yourself Captain.' Kalvan goggles at you, 'Thats utterly ridiculous, no 2nd Gen..' You see the Officer go for his weapon and you punch him as hard as you can. He crumples before you, unconscious. Kalvan kicks away his Pistol. 'Wow, glass jaw.' Though you see a flash of pride run through him.
You get a nagging feeling that you have missed something, you ask Kalvan to check the Power Levels across the Spearhead. Kalvan does so, 'Nope it is exactly as we left it.' He then squints at you, 'I see where you're going with this, we reduced their numbers last time so for the coup to work he would need to make more. That would take power...'
Kalvan searches on his Datapad, 'Yesssss, I see. There have been some serious power re-distribution to make the Droid Factory operational without setting off any alarms.' Kalvan takes a long deep breath.
'Ok, I'll go shut down the Droid Factory again, and make sure it cannot be re-activated any time soon. I need you to look into an error I am finding with the Cyborg Techs. The Mainframe cannot seem to get any response from them. They have direct access to the Spearheads Mainframe and computer systems. So we cannot afford to have any problems with them. You need to go to Level 2, through the Engine Room, Life Support and the Sensor Array until you get to Sensor Command. The Cyborgs main responsibility is to keep the Sensors running. For without them the Spearhead is blind.'
'Good luck Captain, till we meet again.'
You receive 340,473 Xp + 15 Skill Points. |
