Sword of Dahon |
|
Stage 1 |
Location: | Dahon Plains (Wilderness) (2, 9) |
As you walk the Wilderness, you are hailed by a tall Dahon Warrior in colorful armor. |
|
The Warrior nods curtly, 'We have heard that you have been fighting at the word of Amara. This was unexpected, your success brings honor to The House. Torkallak wishes to speak with you. He is the Leader of all Dahon Braves, second only to the Chief himself. He waits for you in the Scouts Cave.' |
|
|
Stage 2 |
Location: | Dahon Plains (Scout Caves) (2, 2) |
Torkallak stands in the cool of the Scout Cave waiting for you. Behind him stands three other Mutants in tribal dress. |
|
You step into the small cave. In its center stands Torkallak. He looks you up and down as you approach. 'I have heard of you Brave, you have undergone the initiation of a Dahon under the guidance of Amara. How did that go for you?' He smiles quickly and you get the distinct impression he has made some kind of joke. You answer him that through her guidance you have served the Clan. He stiffens at your words and clears his throat. 'Yes, yes. You have.'
'I wish to ask you if you would serve the Clan in another way?' You nod slowly. There is a tone in Torkallak that reminds you of a snake. You answer that you would if Amara agreed to the task. Torkallak blinks at you in the gloom, 'Only if Amara agrees? What, are you now attached to her apron strings?' You smile back at him, you guess it is not a very reassuring sight judging from Torkallak's face. You do not argue but simply state that you trust Amara's wisdom as you know her better than him.
One of the three Mutants behind Torkallak steps forward, 'I see you respect the word of Amara. Then she will be summoned. I would be interested in what the young Medicine Woman has to say. Judging from your success she has wisdom indeed.'
Amara is brought into the small Cave by the tall Dahon Warrior, you are surprised to see her looking round uncertainly. Torkallak towers over her, 'This Brave will only do a Task if you agree.' Amara's mouth opens and closes, then she glances at you sideways for a second then draws on a deep strength and glares Torkallak in the eye. 'What task would you have him do? Go into the Phantoms Clanlands alone?' Torkallak stands in silance, the three Mutants behind him smirk in the darkness at Torkallak's back. Amara steps straight into his face, 'Don't tell me that was the task! Have you lost your mind, or are you just trying to get rid of the only 'Brave' in the last 10 years to make a Marauder Mask and not have it handed down to him from his Father.' Torkallak splutters, ' 'My Mask is an antique of my family...'
Another of the three Mutants behind Torkallak steps forward. In a frail voice she whispers, 'Our people are being taken at an unprecedented rate. We must find out where they are going. We have seen no evidence that the Stalkers in the Accursed Caves ever had them. Torkallak thinks they might have been taken to the Lake, to be eaten or more likely for some foul sacrifice to one of their foolish gods. We must send someone to find out. What would be your wisdom?'
Amara bites her lower lip. Eventually she nods, 'Yes, I am confused as to why the Stalker Blades suddenly have guns. How did they get the money to buy a new gun? This worrisome problem must be solved as well as the question you propose. She turns to you, 'Brave, I ask you to enter the Phantom Stalkers lands and find who is arming the Stalkers and where our people are being taken. But this is a scouting mission. If it gets too dangerous simply return. You will find your path starts in the Arid Plain, you will need to travel to the Taulin Desert (Border) to get to the Arid Plain. Remember, you are the Sword of Dahon. Make our enemies tremble.
You turn and leave the small cave. Torkallak fumes that you did not heed his command. But neither he or you see the three Mutants standing behind Torkallak, nodding in agreement at Amara's words. |

Stage 3 |
Location: | Taulin Desert (Arid Plain) (3, 14) |
In the distance a tall coulomb of smoke rises into the clear sky. |
|
You discover a smoking escape pod crashed into the sand, you see movement inside. You rush up help the Mutant out of the wreck. She ties a rough bandage over her right eye and sweeps her red dreads out of her face. 'Thank you, my name is Ellie. I think we should get away from the pod, just in case it explodes.'
You ask if she is all right, she nods. 'I banged my head and hurt my eye, but apart from that I'm ok I think. The worst thing is that my livelihood has just literally gone up in smoke. I'm a trader you see, I take my flier and buy cheap from remote areas and sell at high in Taulin City. I was doing all right when I was shot down. I had three crew in my cargo flier, I don't know where they are. But I also had some rather valuable items, I'd like to get them back. Can you help me?'
You look around at the desolate sands stretching out into the horizon. The only civilization you know about that is anywhere around here is the Dahon. You are not too sure they will welcome her with open arms as she is not strong enough to handle the dangers of the land. You nod as it looks like you seem to be the only way she will survive.
Hope springs in her face, 'That's great!' She takes out a battered Datapad and starts to scroll down the menu in the small view screen. 'I don't know what took out my Cargo Flier. But on Sigma it could have been anything. All my items have a tiny beckon on them. It helps when someone tries to steal my stuff. The only Problem is that the Transponder Scanner which could detect the lost items has also been lost. I suspect that small bits of it have been scattered over the local area. The first task is to rebuild it. Here, take this Pulse Emitter Blueprint, it is the first part of the Transponder. Come back when you have built the Emitter as I need to check it's done right.'
You receive 1 x Pulse Emitter Blueprint |

Stage 4 |

|
She takes the Emitter in her tentacle, 'This is good, much better than I expected you to build. I think we will get on fine! Ok, my Datapad predicts the next fragments of the Transponder fell in the Salt Flats. So I shall meet you there. Oh you can have the Emitter back as I don't have a backpack to carry it.'

We just need one more piece to make the Transponder. The Datapad got some scanner hits indicating fragments in the Deadland. I look forward to meeting you there.'

Ellie constantly looks around the area, she is terrified of something. |
|
Ellie snorts at you, 'Thats the trouble with being on the ground. Things can creep up on you. I have just done an area scan of the local area and it is full of those weird Silens Nex. Watch yourself. Those things make no sound, and kill you while you sleep. It does not surprise me that they picked up the fragments, as those things constantly look for things on the ground to eat.'
She brings out her Datapad and prints out a Blueprint. 'The Signal Analyzer is the last piece of the Transponder.' She hands you the Blueprint, 'I will put the Transponder Scanner Blueprint in the Deadland Center to speed things up. Come back when you have made it, please be quick, I don't want to be here for long.'

She holds it with a stunned look on her face, 'I'm sorry, I didn't expect to ever be holding this in my hands.' She plugs in a battery and the Transponder lights flicker on. Ellie looks up at you, 'Wow, it works!' She bites her lower lip, 'I don't see any ping from any of my crew. I'll just narrow the beam.' A loud bleep emits form the scanner suddenly, 'Good, got a hit. And it is near too. Dorvik is in the Knoll. He must have found a cave there in the hills. I'll meet you there, I want to get away from those horrible Silens Nex.' |
|
|
Stage 9 |
Location: | Taulin Desert (Knoll) (2, 3) |
In the middle of the Taulin Desert, a ridge of red rock rises. The harsh winds have smoothed the rock into strange flowing shapes. You find Ellie bent over her Transponder Scanner looking for a sign of her missing crew member. |
|
At your voice her head snaps up, her face twisted in frustration. 'Stupid desert, I think the wind has picked up and is blowing irradiated sand into the area. There is now too much interference for a scan to pinpoint Dorvik's location. From these results he seems to be spread out over the whole area. Can you go look for him. I'll stay here and try to get a proper lock on him.'
Find Ellie's lost crew member Dorvik, return when you have some news for her. |
|
|
Stage 10 |
Location: | Taulin Desert (Knoll) (2, 3) |
Ellie tries to narrow the bandwidth of the Transponder Scanner to find Dorvick, she is not having much apparent success. 'Have you found Dorvick yet?' |
|
Ellie looks at you oddly, 'What's this? Where is Dorvick?' She looks at the DataDiary for a long time before she takes it. She turns it on and begins to read through the entries, 'I see the datestamp has been corrupted, that is not surprising with the state it was probably in. He did not last long did he?' She gives out a long sigh then pockets the pad. 'This is all that is left of him?' You tell her that you found no other evidence of Dorvick in the area. You suspect he was eaten by the Spine Hail, but some things she does not need to know.
'I shall inform his family. Thank you for your help with this. But I still need your help in trying to locate my items. If Dorvick landed around here, my items must have. We should meet up in the Rad Hills and check the area for them.' |

After a moment, she continues, 'I need you to get my Preorder List, it is items that have been pre-ordered by my Customers, so I really need that to be able to look competent. Ellie's eye widens in astonishment, 'You have no idea what this means to me. I have had to go to the weirdest places to fill these orders. Thank you very much. The good news is that I have had a hit off the last two of my crew members. I can't believe that they are alive! I just got a fleating ping of their life locater beckons but they are on the Ridge. You enter the Canyon and are suddenly aware of the smell of burning wood. |
|
You follow the smell and eventually find an Old Stalker sitting by a campfire looking miserably at the empty spit standing over it. He looks up at you, 'Oh, you're here. But you look distinctly alive. That is gonna make roasting you a bit difficult. Ah well, I see that she has failed this time.' His gaze returns to the fire.
You look down at the old Stalker and ask where Ellie is. At her name, you see him visibly flinch. 'When I was young, we would be honest about it. We would run up to a camp, murder the guards and eat the women. Everyone knew where they were. You were either dead or dinner. None of this sneaking about and tricking folk. Which is exactly what Ellie has done to you. I must say I have eaten well recently, but it was a somewhat guilty feast.' The words filter down through your mind. But you can't quite get the meaning. You ask him to explain himself further in as reasonable a tone as you can manage.
The Old Gutter smiles up at you, 'Well now, lets look at you. You have helped a lonely Mutant Trader who has lead you across the desert battling all sorts of dangerous Entities. You then found our camp and murdered your way into here looking to 'save' this Trader. I commend you on your strength of character and arm. It's a shame that we Stalkers cannot say the same things.
The Rad flows thin though our veins.' He shifts his old bones on the rock he is sitting on, 'The truth is that Ellie is a Stalker. She had this idea that Folks are gullible and stupid. She then set up that foolishness of the crashed Life-Pod and had items left covered in blood so the the hungry desert Entities would eat them up. The folks she tricked would either fall from injury or be killed by Ellie when they left their guard down. She would simply signal us and a Guardian would go get their stuff and bring us an easy meal. It has worked perfectly until now I'm glad to say.' The Old Gutter looks past your shoulder, 'Its not that often an Old Gutter like myself gets listened to, so I'll return the favor. There seems to be a Shaman is creeping up on you, I would defend myself.'
You must murder the Phantom Shaman (Elite) |

The Old Stalker gives you a sharp look, 'I tell you what, since you let me down by not dying. I think you should make it up to me. You need to get me another meal for the one you so selfishly failed to provide.' He hands you a Blueprint. You read the title and smile. Amara said that you were the Sword of Dohan, it is only fitting that it should fall on a scheming wretch like Ellie. Just before you go the Old Gutter pipes up, 'Oh, we are not called Phantom Stalkers for nothing you know. You may need to really look for Ellie if she has gone into hiding.

You turn and walk out of the of the Canyon. You have been given a task to find out why the Stalkers have new weaponry and where the missing Dahon people ended up.
