Thirst of the Machine |
|
Stage 1 |
Location: | Dahon Plains (Perimeter) (9, 2) |
You find Amara looking around nervously, muttering something under her breath. |
|
The proud Dahon Medicine Woman gives you a faint smile, you guess that is the only sign of her relief to see you. 'There is something here Brave, something dark and hungry. We must step carefully. I have seen mechanical men striding the area and I sense that the mean us harm. But they must serve some purpose, all machines do. Can you go find out what that is?' |

|
Stage 2 |
Location: | Dahon Plains (Perimeter) (14, 14) |
You follow one of the Life Harvesters to a small pillar next to a Metallic Hut. The Droid waves its arm before the pillar and with a shrill bleep the door of the Metallic Hut opens and the Harvester disappears in. You will need a harvest to open the Service Door and see what dark secrets lay within. |
|
Before you the scanner blinks weakly. You wave the Harvest in front the scanner lens and with a shrill bleep you hear the metal door pop open...
You receive 1 x Cerrath Harvest |

|
Stage 3 |
Location: | Dahon Plains (Cerrath Service Port) (2, 2) |
You enter what a factory bay with a well worn path that runs from the Service door up to a dispenser arm. The arm reaches for you then stops. It seem to be expecting something. |
|
You place the harvest in the worn metal hand. A light glows green just above the wrist as the Harvest is registered by the arm. It then twists and places the Harvest carefully onto a low pedestal, where is sits for a second. Then within a green flash it is teleported away. The arm then resets, then reaches for you again.
You stare at the arm for a moment. This does not explain where the Dahon Tribes-People have vanished to.
You turn to leave when the iris on the floor to your right starts to bleep loudly. A red light flashes, then the iris opens revealing a black hole in the floor. The Hovering Sphere spinning next to it slowly starts to move over gaping void. The Sphere's rings then also stop spinning and move up next to the small directional thruster. Nothing happens for a second, when suddenly, the body of the ball opens and to your astonishment, out drops an unconscious Phantom Hunter, rifle and all down into the blackness. The iris light then turns green and shuts with an ominous 'shhhiiik'...
You stare in astonishment at the now closed iris. You now know where the Dahon people have disappeared to. They have been taken by these Hovering Spheres. You don't remember exactly where you last saw the Phantom Hunter, but it was not particularly close by. Which means that these Hovering Spheres not only have a large range but they are also powerful enough to overcome a fully armed Stalker. You should return to Amara and tell her the grave news. |
|
|
Stage 4 |
Location: | Dahon Plains (Perimeter) (9, 2) |
Amara greets you with open relief, 'I am pleased to see you return Brave. You had been gone for such a long time, I was beginning to fear for you. Have you discovered the purpose for these dark robotic men?' |
|
She listens to your tale. You tell her of finding the Service Analyzer and she grimaces at your description of putting together a Carrath Harvest. When you gave the Harvest to the metal arm and it vanishing into thin air she blinks in confusion. She asks, 'Why would the Blood-Canister simply vanish?' You smile at her naivety and say gently, 'From the existence of a Harvester wandering around I think a Cloning Facility is nearby. The Blood is probably used to make a Clone Unit. I have an suspicion you call that Clone Unit a Soulless.'
Amara squints at you, 'But why would anyone want a Soulless? They are a threat to all who live!' You shrug your shoulders, then tell her about the Floating Sphere depositing the Phantom Hunter into the iris. She laughs, 'Well the machine can eat as many Stalkers as it wishes.' You stare back, she falls into silence.
You say slowly, 'If the Spheres can take a fully armed Stalker, then it can take a Dahon Brave. They also have quite a long range as I don't remember seeing a Phantom Hunter around here. Where do these metal orbs appear?'
Amara grabs your arm, 'They are all over the Dahon Plains, even within our own Camp! The Orbs have never attacked anyone before unless you attack them first!' You nod, then tell her, 'Sometimes things change.'
Amara stares back at you dumbfounded then she whispers to herself, 'Metal Orbs are stealing our people. We must stop this from happening. We must shut down this Facility for the sake of the Dahon.' |

|
Stage 5 |
Location: | Dahon Plains (Cerrath Gate) (12, 2) |
You find Amara in the corner of the Cerrath Gate staring around in fear. |
|
She folds her arms in front of her, 'It shames me but robots have always made me fearful. How can anyone be sure what is going on in that unnatural brain of theirs? So when I am faced with a psychotic robot who is trying to murder me, well it just feeds my phobia. Makes me even weaker when I am facing such an opponent.'
You draw your weapon and ask her what attacked her. In a whisper laced with fear Amara replies, 'I was eager to find the entrance to the Facility you think is here. But when I got here a faceless silver man ordered me to halt. I could only move when I saw its weaponry start to glow, I knew it was just waiting to lock onto me with its targeting systems. The thing is built only to make death. It does not even have any hands, just two guns. I suppose it cannot drop its weapons even in the fiercest battle, ensuring that the death does not stop.' She shudders at her own words.
'The mechanical man will not let us pass, you will have to destroy it. I shall stay here and wait for your return.' |
|
|
Stage 6 |
Location: | Dahon Plains (Cerrath Gate) (12, 2) |
Amara waits for your return, 'Have you bested the Silent Eye (Elite)?' |
|
Amara smiles, 'We have come far into the Cursed Lands. None of the tales of our people speak of this. Know as we walk, that we are crafting new tales that will be told across the camp fires for generations to come. We should see where this tale leads us.'
