The Rule of Numbers |
|
Stage 1 |
Location: | Cerrath (Dispatch) (4, 10) |
You step through the Cerrath Gates straight into the past. As familiar corridors surround you, you hope that you can find a way to solve this riddle as quickly as possible. Amara had walked quite far into Dispatch and she seems to be fascinated by what she sees rather than frightened. |
|
The proud Dahon Medicine Woman bites her lower lip. 'I have no tales that describe what is before me. But I see that these Soulless are actually newer than the ones outside. They don't seem to be flesh either! It boggles my mind that a living thing can be a product of an artificial process. And even mass produced. I thought the spark of life was a gift of Sigma. I might have been wrong.' You listen to Amara's words and see the shaking of her entire beliefs in front of you. You don't like what is happening.
You say gently, 'Amara, listen to me. I am not from your people. I have walked the land and seen many things but I was not born. I am a Clone Unit just like the Soulless. I was produced by the G27 Cloning Facility, it looked just like this to be honest. It is a marvel, but no life is born here. The processes of life are manipulated, but not started. The Spark you mention is actually a random occurrence that is not fully understood by science. But even though they do not fully understand or control the process, they can use it to produce the Clone Units. Do not be discouraged by this wonder. Life is a gift of Sigma to use your words! The Facility is just highly skilled at manipulating that gift.'
Amara stares at you, 'You are similar to the Soulless? Produced by a factory? I find this hard to believe, you have a much fuller personality and spirit that the Soulless simply does not possess.' Smiling, you open your eye and show her the numbers encircling your pupil. Then say gently, 'These numbers are a measure of my abilities as a Clone Unit. My Facility does not produce a Model, but rather one product that can alter to the needs of the environment around it. So I have no Model number in my Iris Code. But other Facilities produce distinct Models with particular characteristics that specialize in a particular role so their codes are longer, showing the Model Number of the Unit. The Iris Code is part of the building blocks of every Unit and it will imprint itself on the iris of all of us. Even Cybernetic Optical Implants will be imprinted with the Iris Code. It cannot be masked or hidden. Now you will be able to recognize a Clone Unit in future.'
She steps back from you, 'Well, you may be a Unit to others. But you are a Brave to us! I also see that good can come from a Facility, the proof of that is standing right before me. But we cannot have the Soulless rampaging across our Lands. I ask you, will you help us shut down this place?' You smile again and say, 'These may be my cousins as fellow Units, but I see the effect of them on the Land. I will do everything to help fix the problem. What do you think we should do?'
Arama grins wildly, 'This is a factory. These droids are keeping track of the amount of Units the facility is making. We should see if we can confuse them and so stop the release of these newer Soulless for the time being. There has to be some sort of Admin Office somewhere running this place, that might be a good place to try.' |

Stage 2 |
Location: | Cerrath (Dispatch) (11, 13) |
Before you is a pillar with a small computer terminal and view screen. On the viewscreen the words 'Authorized Personnel Only' blink slowly. |
|
You see next to the view screen a chrome steel keyhole, you slip in the Cerrath Terminal Key and a text box popsup saying, 'Authority granted to Cerrath (Admin Access). Please use the Order Terminal found in Cerrath (Dispatch Admin) for further details. The screen goes blank. |
|
|
Stage 3 |
Location: | Cerrath (Dispatch Admin) (2, 2) |
In the center of the small windowless office you find the Order Terminal. You press the viewscreen and a small text box opens, 'Insert Order Status.' |
|
You slip the Green sheet of paper onto the scanner found under the keyboard. The box vanishes and is replaced with another alert message, 'Error in Order Status Do you wish to check Order Details? [y] [n]' You blink at the two options. Then press [y].
Immediately a form appears on screen, you look at the vague details that are within the forms boxes. When you notice that within the box labeled 'Order Capacity' is a string of weird shapes. The field has obviously corrupted. You select the box and the strange shaped become highlighted. You then press '0'.
A warning box pops up, 'Are you sure you want the Order Capacity set to [0] [y] [n]?'
You hold your breath and press [y].
Another box opens up, 'Order Capacity reset to [0] Order canceled. If this is NOT correct please contact Cerrath Resource Department.'
You can't quite believe your luck, you had best tell Amara the good news. |

Stage 4 |
Location: | Cerrath (Dispatch) (4, 10) |
Amara is wiping blood or oil off her hands as you return. |
|
The proud Dahon Medicine Woman shrugs, 'I went to ask the Soulless where they were going. The Revenant I spoke to attacked me. But I did manage to get something out of her before she died. She seemed to dislike all non-soulless and mentioned that her Series would get revenge for her.' She then hands you a small metallic capsule.
'I suppose as any product, Cerrath has to improve upon it. I just pray we can stop them.' Amara points at the shiny object. 'That was forced out of her when I stabbed her gut. She seemed to want it badly enough to make a grab for it even in the heat of a fight. I can only assume it's important. Do you have any good news?'
You tell her that you managed to cancel the order that the Units are being made to fill. Also the Order had a corrupted field which does not bode well for the stability of the Cerrath Facilities computer systems. The order could easily be re-started but no new Units will be delivered for the time being.
Amara sighs deeply, 'That is great news Brave. We should press our advantage whilst the Facility is not aware of us. Come on, I fear more battle awaits us the deeper we go. But unfortunately for them, we Dahon are made for battle!'
You receive 407,162 Xp + 1 x S1 Adrenaline Regulator and 10 Skill points. |
