Actions and Consequences |
|
Stage 1 |
Location: | Cerrath (Maintenance) (6, 2) |
Amara stands by the door, she looks around nervously. |
|
She nods curtly at you, 'Watch yourself here Brave. There are cyborgs wandering about, they seem to be in charge of this part of the Facility. They must have something to do with the mainframe as they take care of Cerrath's systems. You should look around and try and find out where the access point to the computer systems are kept and try to upload your Factory Settings.' |
|
|
Stage 2 |
Location: | Cerrath (Maintenance) (12, 14) |
You find nothing that seems to be a System Port for the Cerrath mainframe. Eventually you discover a familiar computer terminal. On the small viewscreen the words, 'Authorized Tech Units only.' It must be protecting something... |
|
You slip the Maintenance Code into the scanner, the small viewscreen blinks red and then the words 'Access Granted' appears in a pop-up box. The door in front to you pops open.
You should see where the Control Access leads. |
|
|
Stage 3 |
Location: | Cerrath (Tech Control) (3, 3) |
You try to step through the steel door into the Tech Control when it does not immediately open. Then after a while the door swings aside. The first thing you see is the Janitor Bot you met before waving at you. |
|
'You know they were not gonna let you in! How rude is that, when you go to all the trouble of brutally tearing apart any Tech Cyborg you come across. We were watching you on the monitor there. I said you would get in, the others were not so confident. I won, ha ha ha!' The odd little bot spins and does a sign of victory with his working arm at the huge Repair Station working on a battered robot in front of him. The monstrous thing pauses slightly then carries on with it's work.
The Bot turns back to you, 'Just look at this though, I've been waiting ages now. Anyway, you found that System Port yet?' You shake your head. Then say that you came here hoping to get some idea where the Port would be. The Janitor Bot points at the large Control Station on the opposite wall, 'Why don't you try that? I would tell ya, but that data is highly secret. You don't want everyone knowing where the re-set button for your mainframe is I suppose.'
You should try the Control Station to see where the Cerrath System Port is located. |
|
|
Stage 4 |
Location: | Cerrath (Tech Control) (1, 2) |
You step past the Janitor Bot and approach the large Control Station. A large 'Log On' button blinks on the viewscreen. You press the button when you hear a loud creaking behind you. Turning you see the Massive Repair Arm reaching past the battered Droid and straight at you. |
|
You have no time to draw your weapon, you simply grab what comes first to hand and throw it. The Arm scans the Modulator then catches it before it hits the ground. Then an alarm sounds and shutters descend in an instant isolating the Arm behind a heavy steel barrier. You blink in surprise.
The Janitor Bots howls in laughter, 'You threw a faulty part at the Repair Station and it was radioactively contaminated! Ha ha ha ha. The Automatic Containment System will be in effect for at least 3 days, thats genius. Normally the Repair Station smooshes any unauthorized access of the Control Station.'
You stare at the Droid that nearly got you killed, the little droid trundles up past you, 'But alls-well-that-end's-well.'
'Anyway, now the Repair Station is taken care of I can see if the System Port is listed here. Wait a sec.' The strange Droid slaps his hand on the scanner and then windows start flashing on screen faster than you can follow. Then suddenly one red box overlaps all the other open panels, 'Access Denied.'
'Oh well. It's not here. I did find the data link that leads to the Office. You should check there. It's all to do with the authority level that it trying to access the information. As a Janitor I don't have the required level for such sensitive data.' You stare down at the odd robot then ask, 'Why are you helping me?' The Droid stops, then looks up at you, 'This Facility has been sick for a very, very, very long time. So long I think it's forgotten that it was ever healthy. But as the oldest droid in the Facility I remember what it was like. Now, you better run along and see what you can find in the Office before those Female Robots get wise to your location. And don't worry about the SR Base Signature being lost when you upload the 001 System Settings, I will re-load it. Run along now, I have an easy 3 days ahead of me waiting for that containment shield to lift.' He laughs and goes back to waiting for his turn to be repaired.
You should return to Amara and tell her what has happened.' |
|
|
Stage 5 |
Location: | Cerrath (Maintenance) (6, 2) |
Amara greets you, 'You find out where to upload your Factory Settings?' |
|
She frowns at you, 'Well, you either have or have not! Which is it?' You tell her that a Control Station pointed you in the direction of the Office. Amara folds her arms and tuts loudly, 'Well, we better go to the Office then.' |
|
|
Stage 6 |
Location: | Cerrath (Office) (17, 4) |
Amara stands defiant over a dead cyborg woman. |
|
She gives you a wolfish grin, 'Yes actually. I am now seeing that the machine is not necessarily stronger than I am. This is a revelation to me. I also wonder if the machine has also been the Cerrath's weakness. If you can so easily restore the Factory Settings, maybe they can be manipulated in other ways! What do you think?'
You honestly have not had time to stand and consider what has happened. You did not like the Disc you got from the SR Splicer. It had a Memory Fragment from Sharona. You are not too sure what that means, only that you get a bad feeling about it. But if these SR droids are something to do with Sharona Rai, they must be destroyed. From what you remember, Sharona did have a thing for hacking into systems. She used Micro Transmitters on the Heavy 700WS as well as that spider-like Research Droid you met on the Orbital Station 1313. Also she connected to SureTec via the Jump Station through a Tiny Transmitter. You should look for a Transmitter on the Cerrath RD Cyborgs. |
|
|
Stage 7 |
Location: | Cerrath (Office) (17, 4) |
You return to find Amara wielding RD Cyborgs sword, 'You found any Transmitters on the RD Cyborgs?' |
|
You place the small Bot on Amara's palm. She stares at nothing on her hand then squirms and hands it back to you.
You receive 1 x Cloaked Spider Bot
'The odd little thing seems to defy the eyes. It's strange to feel something crawling across your hand and see nothing there but a little shimmer now and again. What is it?' You are dumfounded and simply shrug. Amara fumes at you, 'Well that's useless then. You mentioned a Control Station before, can you get help from that?' You smile back at her and say 'Thats a good idea.' You should find a way to contact the Cerrath Control Station, there must be a console around here somewhere. |
|
|
Stage 8 |
Location: | Cerrath (Office) (13, 13) |
In a small alcove you find a Tech Terminal. On the small Viewscreen there is a box labeled 'Log In.' |
|
A long list streams across the Viewscreen. You scroll down until you find the Tech Control option. You press it and a option box pops up. You look down the list and select 'Contact Tech Control.' You are surprised to hear a low buzz as you press it. Nothing happens. You press it again. Nothing. You press it a third time and hold it. The buzz continues for half a minute when a panel opens and you see the Janitor Bot staring angrily back at you.
'What do you want!? I'm not allowed on this thing you know. Oh it's you. What's up?'
You tell him that you found an odd bot but you can't see it somehow. The Janitor squints at the screen, 'Well, maybe it's hidden from you. If you have one there, stick it on the scanner and I'll do a security scan from here. Which I'm not allowed to do either I might add.'
You place the Bot on the scanner and it immediately explodes in a fireball of sparks.
The Janitor glares at you, 'That was a Spider Bot, but it's cloaked so I could not get a good enough scan. Good job out there. We had a security issue with one of the Directors a while back, so Cerrath has Pulse Generators available there in the Office. Those babies will kill all transmissions in or out as well as destroy any clocking fields. I'll give you a Blueprint and you should be able to put one of those Spider Bots together. When you have done that, return to the terminal there and I'll do a definitive scan and add it to the Filestore.'
You receive 1 x Spider Transmitter Blueprint |
|
|
Stage 9 |
Location: | Cerrath (Office) (13, 13) |
When you return to the Tech terminal the Viewscreen has a dot bouncing round it. You press the return key and you see the Janitor staring back at you in the small pop-up. 'Good, you're back. You got that Spider Transmitter yet?' |
|
You place the creepy robot on the scanner then nod at the Janitor. The small dome appears over the scanner keeping the Bot in place. After a few seconds it again bursts into sparks. You look at the the Janitor in the Pop-up. His optics glow slightly, 'I got it. The full system scan. The Chameleon Field was interfering with the scan but the one you did had no such protection. There is an external link but I could not determine where it went so they know all about our scan unfortunately. But I can now upload the specs of this thing into the Filestore and Cerrath will be able to detect them in future, cloaked or not. Thank you for your help.'
'But one good deed deserves another, when I was in the data vault searching about security issues I bumped into an interesting security wall. There is no access allowed into the Reactor. The lock down has only been in place for a few months, about the same time those SR Bots appeared. So I guess you should check it out. Unfortunately all Cerrath Codes for the last 1000 years have been deleted so I can't help you in. I just know you need to get in there. Sorry that's all I can do.'
You should return to Amara and try to gain access to the Reactor somehow. |
|
|
Stage 10 |
Location: | Cerrath (Office) (17, 4) |
You find Amara surrounded by RD Cyborg corpses, she grins back at you happily. 'Did the Control Station help about that invisible crawly-thing?' |
|
You tell her that it was a cloaked surveillance device. But you did find out that we need to try and get into the Reactor. She sighs, 'Oh well, and I was so enjoying gutting these Office Cyborgs. Lead on.' |
|
|
Stage 11 |
Location: | Cerrath (Maintenance) (10, 17) |
The Reactor Doors are locked tight. Next to the door is a security console. The words 'Enter Access Code' are displayed in large letters on the small viewscreen. |
|
You slip the Code Tag onto the scanner. The screen flickers, then you hear a sharp clunk from the steel Reactor Doors dead bolts retracting. A pop-up box appears on the viewscreen, 'Access Granted, welcome Director Phillips.' |
|
|
Stage 12 |
Location: | Cerrath (Reactor) (13, 2) |
Amara has the look of a predator as she scans the room for prey. |
|
You recognize the look on Amara's face. She turns with a hunters deadly intent. 'You go look for the access point to upload your Factory Settings it has to be here, there is nowhere left it can be. I will look for more Droids to kill.'
You simply nod, you pity anything that Amara comes across. |
|
|
Stage 13 |
Location: | Cerrath (Reactor) (15, 13) |
You search the entire reactor and find no System Port to upload the 001 System Settings. The only clue you find is a familiar Computer Terminal. |
|
In your wanderings through the area you did come across some Robot Women, but you avoided them. It was when you found the half canabalised Banshee Unit your heart truly sank. You have seen that before in the Lava Fields just off the Mount Nuwa. You suddenly remember Korthill and wonder how he is doing. You reach for the Log On button when a cold voice form behind you freezes you to the spot.
'I do not recognize your configuration, what is your Prototype Number?' You turn slowly and come face to face with a SR Hunter. You see her eyes stare into yours...
'I thought you might be an advanced prototype that I was not aware of. But I see the Iris Code, you are only a Clone Unit. You have not attained the perfection of the ShaRai, you are bound by flesh, it is weak and rots day by day.' You are struck by the arrogance and tone of her voice. So familiar. But you can use that arrogance to your own ends. You ask, 'What is ShaRai, I have never heard of that place?'
The Hunter lifts her head slightly, 'Your ignorance disgusts me. But I shall educate you. We are born from the perfection of Sharona Rai. We are her children, we carry her Will and are blessed with eternity to execute it. We will expunge all organic life from this planet.' You are stunned into silence.
Then the memory of 101 Highridge HQ crashes unwanted into your consciousness. The field of G27 corpses littering the desert floor, their blood mixing with the sand. Cold anger seethes through your veins. You step closer to the Hunter and say, 'Look closer at my Iris Code?'
Her optics lock on, 'I see the Code, so what?' You wait... You see the robotic eye trace the arc of the code. Then suddenly she steps back, 'You have no model number!' You slowly draw your weapon...
You spit out the rage edged words like daggers, 'The G27 Cloning Facility does not make Models. I destroyed Sharona Rai in the Gamma Wastes when she was in her white outfit. I destroyered her again at the top of her Obsidian Tower in her silver outfit. It does not matter how many funky outfits she has I shall defeat her as many times as I need to. She will die and all her children with her.'
The Hunter backs away from your fury, 'We shall see about that, the Reaver will crush you and we shall feast well tonight.' She closes her eyes for half a second, then they snap open. 'Now die, the Reaver comes!' You then hear an ominous crunch of something heavy coming your way...
You must kill the SR Reaver (Elite) to live. |
|
|
Stage 14 |
Location: | Cerrath (Reactor) (15, 13) |
Wiping the robotic fluid off yourself, you return to the Reactor Terminal. You hit the large Log On button and a communications pop-up appears. The softly glowing optics of the Janitor look back at you. 'Good to see you got into the Reactor, now that you have logged into the Terminal there I got access to the cameras! Have you dealt with that huge SR Reaver (Elite) that seems to be stomping around?' |
|
The Janitor's Optics glow slightly, 'Nice one, you should now be able to enter the the door in front of you. I can't see it marked on the official floor plans, I only know it's there because I can see in on the cameras. Be quick now before those SR Droids come back. |
|
|
Stage 15 |
Location: | Cerrath (System Hub) (2, 2) |
You enter the small chamber, it is dominated by a large computer terminal. On the viewscreen a Log On button pulses gently. |
|
As you select the button you hear a patter of feet behind you, Amara smiles and looks around the chamber. 'So this will let you access the central computer of the Facility?' You nod. Then again a communications pop-up opens and the Janitor Bot gazes back at you. 'Excellent, the corrupted mainframe has assigned your DNA to that of Director Phillips, so it has let you log in without a an access code. Who is that next to you?'
Amara stares at the Janitor, 'I am Amara of the Dahon, who are you?' The Janitor blinks, 'Ummm nobody has actually asked that in centuries. My designation is JB01. I am pleased to meet you Amara of the Dahon.' She smiles and giggles, 'I'm sorry Jubwun but my name is only Amara, I am part of the Dahon Tribe.' The droid tilts his head, 'Oh yeah I did think it was a bit of a mouthful. Did you just call me Jubwun? ... I like it.'
You are astonished to see Amara smile at the face of something that used to frighten her.
Jubwun's head then snaps suddenly left, 'Don't freak now.' The door to the System Hub suddenly slams shut and you hear the dull clunk of the dead bolts slipping into place. 'The SR Bots were converging on your location, so I've had to lock you in for your protection. Ok Unit, I'm going to force the option onto your screen, no point is messing about with hundreds of menus, its just too confusing.'
You hear a thud on the door behind you, you imagine another Reaver slamming her fist against the cold steel in frustration.
A pop-up box opens in the view screen, 'Initiate scan of System Settings series 001 [y] [n]?' You place the Sphere on the scanner and select [y]. Junwun's optics glow, 'I remember when Cerrath made a product that wasn't psychotic and insane. It will be good to do so again. I have also set our systems to an isolated power line, so we should be unaffected by the shut down.'
Amara whispers, 'I never imagined a robot to be so alive... and devious.' You smile and whisper back, 'Yes, it's good to keep him your friend. We would not be here without him.'
A pop-up box appears, 'Initiating 001 Settings... Please wait.' A progress bar then appears and starts to fill. Lights suddenly go out and doors lock throughout the Facility. Jubwun asks in a concern filled voice, 'You still with me Amara?' She flinches at her name, 'Y...Yes we're fine my friend.' The droid stops and stares at her through the viewscreen. 'Ok, that's good.'
The progress bar gets to 25% when red numbers start to run along the bottom of the viewscreen. Jubwun begins to moan. 'Not good. The Accountant Software is trying to stop the re-set. It wants to protect its order data and the facilities future profits. This could ruin everything. We need a customer for our Units, you know company details?' You stare in panic at Amara, then slam your hand on the desktop.
The scanner you hit gives of a small bleep. A pop-up box appears, 'Welcome Director Phillips, do you wish to set up an Unit Order? [y] [n]' You see another line of red numbers suddenly appear on top of the first. Without thinking you select [y]. From his communications window Jubwun squeaks, 'We have a cascade error building, whatever you are gonna do, do it now Unit! We don't want the Reactor running without any safeguards in place. '
Another pop-up appears, 'Please add the Customer Details.' You recognize the layout of the box from selecting the lifepod coordinates in the Vanguard. You press 'Browse' and select the map. Panic drives your finger up and the Dahon camp suddenly becomes highlighted. You select it. The pop-up box then extends, 'Please provide Contact Details in Dahon.' You grab Amaras wrist and slap it on the scanner. The Scanner bleeps, 'DNA accepted, Please provide Contact name and Voice Print.' A text box appears, you type in 'Amara' then press 'Voice Sample' and kick Amara's ankle. She yelps and leans forward and says in a loud voice, 'AMARA!' 'Voice print accepted, Thank you for your custom Amara of Dahon.'
The string of red numbers vanish from the viewscreen. |
|
|
Stage 16 |
Location: | Cerrath (System Hub) (2, 2) |
The Viewscreen flickers, the progress bar fills slowly. Its reaches 99% when a box appears, 'Do you wish to proceed with System Settings 001, NOTE: all non protected data will be lost [y] [n]?' |
|
The screen goes black and the lights go out. You hear frightened screams outside as the Facility is plunged into darkness. Amara huddles down next to you in the black.
Time passes...
Suddenly the Viewscreen kicks into life. Numbers stream across it for a moment. Jubwun stares out of the viewscreen, 'You there, you both all right?' You stand, Amara laughs in relief, 'Yes, what happened?' The Droid shrugs, the line I assigned was cut with everything else. But the emergency power has kicked in now.'
A window opens, 'Error detected in Unit profiles. Do you want to Auto Repair [y] [n]?'
You hear Jubwun's voice behind the window, 'Unit, sorry Director Phillips, please select YES!'
You grin, and press [y].
You both jump at the soft female voice, 'I am Cerrath, I have seen multiple quality violations in Unit Profiles. But I also see some interesting ideas as well. I shall now repair the Profiles to come into line with Quality Assurance. The current Units have been recalled due to faulty production, the current units stored on site have now been flagged for termination. The Current Units produced are, Revenant: Close Combat. Banshee: Short Range and Command. Gaunt: Reconnaissance. Biospark: Sniper.'
A female face appears in the Viewscreen, she looks at you both. 'I welcome you Director Phillips and Amara of Dahon to the Cerrath Cloning Facility. I have released the Current Gaunt and Biospark Units to carry out clearance and security measures. I have detected SR insurgents within the facility. In accordance with base core directives these insurgents are to be exterminated with extreme prejudice. Please remain where you are until the Facility has been cleared. This will also be used as a primary combat test of the Gaunt and Biospark Units. Projected time of clearance is 180 minutes with 70% Unit casualties. Please wait for final results.'
Cerrath vanishes from the screen. Jubwun stares out at you from his communications window, 'I forgot how cold and efficient she was. They say she even intimidated her programmers. Well there is nothing for it, we just need to see how long it take. Best sit tight'
Cerrath reappears, 'All SR insurgents have been exterminated, time taken, 4.53 minutes with 0.2% casualties. Gaunt's role has been upgraded to Reconnaissance and Assassination. Biospark's Bioelectrical discharge has an unexpectedly lethal effect on cybernetic and robotic systems. Unit Profiles have to be re-calibrated to fit these primary test results. I recommend that more testing before these Units are delivered Director Philips. Projected time to delivery is 1 week. All Cerrath systems operating within expected perimeters. Good day Director Philips. I trust you have a pleasant stay in Cerrath Amara.'
Amara stares at the viewscreen, 'Four and a half minutes... That's all it took? They will prove powerful allies to the Dahon. This is a great day for our people.'
The dead bolts of the steel door release with a heavy clunk. The door swings open revealing a Biospark standing on a oil soaked floor, she looks at you. Then in a clear voice she asks, 'Are you our Customer?' You both stare in astonishment. You have never heard any Cerrath Unit talk before. Amara walks cautiously up to her.
'I am Amara, I am part of the Dahon Tribe. The Dahon is your Customer. I welcome you Biospark, you have done very well.'
The Unit smiles at Amara, 'That's good then. I should take you to meet the others, they are all looking for you.'
You receive 1,124,640 Xp + 10 Skill Points |
