Path of the Mind |
|
Stage 1 |
Location: | Takron City (Square) (6, 2) |
Both you and 4595 run out of the Takron Tower and enter a wide Square of a devastated city. Inkari battle droids are patrolling the Square constantly so you have to hide to let them pass. 4595 points over your shoulder and you see the Altus Advocate standing in the street beside a glowing ball of light. |
|
The tall stone man nods as you draw near, 'Greetings to you both. You have done well, an external power wave has been detected within the Vengeance Crystal Indarthil gave you.' He then points to the silver Tower behind you. 'The Vengeance has been fully charged and can be released. I have been holding that back hoping you would get out, I am pleased that I waited.' He then raises his arm and an odd silence falls.
The colour of the world fades slightly, and a thin dark line traces around the Takron Tower. Then with a rush of air the entire tower vanishes from tight. You blink... Colour returns and all that is left is an empty yard where the Tower once stood. Your mind reels at what had just happened. No explosion, no light, no heat not even a vibration. Just the soft rush of air filling the empty volume that the Tower once took up. The Takron Tower no longer exists.
4595 gasps at what just happened, you turn to the Advocate who raises his hand, 'They no longer live. There will be a few automatons that would know what was happening between the millisecond of release and execution of the Misfortune. But that is it. All organic life within the field will not even realize that they have just been killed. Indarthil requires a sample of the Takron technology. Please compile this Takron Slayer Pattern and deliver it to Indarthil within the Chamber of Whispers. I personally think that the Slayers should be exterminated, but Indarthil wants to see if the Droids figure out how to survive without their masters.' He shrugs, 'I do just what I am asked.'
You receive 1 x Takron Slayer Pattern Blueprint |

Stage 2 |
Location: | Chamber of Whispers (2, 2) |
Indarthil waits for you within the small Chamber, 'Greetings to both of you, did you manage to build the Slayer Pattern?' |
|
He takes the Slayer Pattern from you, 'Good, I shall add this to our knowledge store. In future we shall be able to identify Inkari devices more effectively. I also thank you and your friend in dealing with the thieves of the Crucible. We could have dealt with it ourselves, but we have to remain hidden as much as possible. It is better for Sigma if we remain the stuff of legends. As a token of our gratitude please take this Altus Valkyrie. It is essentially an upgrade of a weapon pattern we found on one of the Inkari Insurgents. I hope you will find it useful.'
You receive 1 x Altus Valkyrie
You may exit this Chamber using the Portal on the east wall. It shall take you to the individual you know as Garion. Please give him my apologies for delaying you. Until we meet again, live well Unit.'
Use the portal and find Garion |

Stage 3 |
Location: | Nargith Plain (Hills) (2, 2) |
You step through the shining light and blink at the rush of fresh air that hits you. Looking around, you see that you are in the foothills of what appears to be a large ridge. Tough savanna grasses snap as you move through them, the Hill you are on slopes sharply downward to the South where a vast desert plain stretches to the horizon.
Your heart sinks as you see on the yellow sands two large sections of colour. One amethyst pink and the other a rich lush green. Between them a muddy strip of blasted land shows the tell-tale signs of a battlefront, so it looks like your old acquaintances don't get along.
The Portal Light bursts with energy and 4595 steps through. At the sudden flash of light you hear a low whimper of fear. Turning to the sound, you see a figure cowering behind a large rock. |
|
You step towards the rock and the person behind it cries out, 'Please don't kill me. I'm just here doing my job!' You immediately freeze at his terror and 4595 steps around you. 'Don't concern yourself. I am a Tarrolan Peace Officer, my companion and I are simply traveling through the area.'
The robed figure points at the hovering Portal Light, 'Well explain how you can have a Portal Light simply manifest in thin air without any frame to keep the Portal Field stable. I don't know much, but I do know that the technology of a non-contained Portal Field does NOT EXIST YET!' He glares at 4595 with a stare fringed with hysteria, the Police Droid then goes suddenly silent and looks back at you.
The unblinking gaze of the frightened little man then fixes on you. You ask gently, 'I'm sorry, but what is your job?' The little man then folds his arms and hunkers down against some unseen assailant. Petulantly he mutters, 'He's trying to get me killed. He says Knowledge can only be found in the wilds. followed by, One can only advance through adversity. He then handed me this Verge Analysis and instructed me to find something out of the ordinary.'
You look down at the Blueprint in his hands then says, 'Why don't we get you the Analysis and you can look at it and present your results.' The little man stares up at you for a moment. Then hands you the Blueprint, 'Just don't get yourself killed.' You smile down at him behind his rock, struck by the surprising contradiction of concern for a stranger who terrifies him.
You receive 1 x Field Verge Analysis Blueprint |

Stage 4 |
Location: | Nargith Plain (Hills) (2, 2) |
You return to the cowering Researcher, 'Did you manage to get that Field Verge Analysis?' |
|
He takes the Analysis from you and examines it.
After a moment he murmurs, 'I don't see anything strange apart from this System Icon which is peppering the Operating System of the Verge. I should go tell Him what we found.' 4595 asks as gently as he can, 'You keep mentioning this person, who is it you speak of?' The Robed man looks up at him, 'Lord Garion of course, coming out here was his idea.'
At his name 4595's head snaps straight to you. You know if he could smile the Droid would. He says in his synthesized voice, 'Well we'd best not keep Lord Garion waiting.'
The Robed man laughs harshly, 'I'm talking about Lord Garion here. Member of the Iota Ruling Council, he's a Purist Lord you know! But if you want to meet him he's in the Field Camp just south east of here.'

Stage 5 |
Location: | Nargith Plain (Hills) (17, 7) |
You walk to a small and strangely familiar grouping of tents. A guard meets you on the edge of the Camp. He stares down at the thin robed researcher that is leading you, 'Dorneth, you cannot take unknown strangers into the Camp.' In an irritating, high pitched voice he then tries to explain to the uncaring guard why he brought you to the Camp.
But behind the Guard a richly robed figure walks out from the largest tent. His eyes meet you and he freezes momentarily, then rushes up to you. |
|
You are taken aback by the open joy with which the Old Purist greets you. 'My Friend, I thought I had lost you! I'm so glad that you are alive. Come into my tent and we shall talk further.' He then brushes the astonished Guard aside and guides you, 4595 and the speechless Dorneth into the large warm tent.
Once inside he wheels around and grabs you, 'Where did you go? I feared the worse when I lost you in the Eye of Thought!' You hear a gasp from Dorneth at his words. 4595 then states simply, 'The Altus redirected the connection and asked us to do something for them. We completed that task and they sent us to you.' Garion smiles broadly, 'So the Altus took you, I thought I had fumbled the mantra and lost you in the Vortex of Eternity. All who fall into it are never seen again. It is assumed to be an unpleasant end.' Dorneth's eyes are wide like dinner plates at the casual mention of the Altus, but Garion only grins at his dumbfounded consternation.
He walks up to the small Purist, 'Now - how did you get on with your assignment?' Dorneth simply gives him the Verge Analysis, 'With the help of your...' He points at both you and 4595, 'Friends - I managed to complete the assignment I was given. I see nothing strange about the structure of the Hover Verge, but within the Operating System there is an odd Icon that seems to be out of place.'
Garion points at the symbol of the Unkown System Icon and Dorneth nods. Garion smiles back at him and says, 'Truly excellent work Dorneth. Oh, and the next time do not use a rock to hide yourself, but your Mental Strength. It will give 360 degrees protection and has the added bonus of being much less embarrassing.' He then dismisses him with a wave of his hand.
He watches him go, 'That is a very, very talented young man. I recommend that you remember his name. Just needs to believe in himself a bit, but then don't we all!' He then points at the Verge Analysis, 'This Icon seem familiar to you? It's the same as the Chaos Rune you used back at the Darkscape. It is the reason we are here. I have been looking into it. The symbol bothers me and I can't explain why, but there are no clear records of the Rune, simply hints and vague references. The one clear thing I have been able to establish is that the Chaos Rune is somehow attached to terror. I just don't know why. In my research the Nargith Plain kept coming up, so I came here and was astonished to discover the Golgesh and Shard killing each other.'
A frown creases Garion's brow, 'This is important Unit. We can't have either the Shard or the Golgesh gaining control over the Nargith Plain. We must find out about this Chaos Rune and it's meaning. The best way to insure that neither side wins is to make sure that neither gains the advantage over the other. Go down to the Nargith Plain and weaken both the Shard and the Golgesh to a stalemate, then search the Nargith Plain for a clue about the Chaos Rune.'
